For some, choosing nursery decor can be a fun and exiting way to pass the pregnancy time away. It keeps mom’s mind focused on the day she will be able to bring her new baby home from the hospital and show him his brand-new family, life and new nursery. Honestly, what mom-to- be doesn’t love revisiting her childhood through cute pink lambs or a fuzzy teddy bear. Decorating the nursery can remind her of a time long ago when she played in her own room. Although decorating the nursery can be a fun and enjoyable time for mom and dad, there are ways to take the nursery from “ultimate cute” to educational and stimulating for new baby. Mom and Dad would do well in considering these simple tips on merging together cuteness with childhood development when choosing their nursery decor. One thing to consider when decorating baby’s wonderful new space is that newborn babies are born with limited eye sight. They can visually perceive objects placed eight to twelve inches away from their face. Contrasting colors such as red, black and white are easiest for baby to see. Choosing nursery decor in these colors would be wise if you wish to stimulate baby while he is in his room. A great way to stimulate your baby is to hang some contrasting color images where baby can see them. Cards displaying favorite baby images such as smiling faces, checkerboards, spirals, zigzags or other contrasting pattern will surely capture baby’s attention. Just be sure to place these images out of baby’s reach. Another simple and inexpensive item to include in your nursery decor is a pinwheel. You may attach it to baby’s changing table or anywhere else where baby can view it. Spin the wheel to keep baby occupied when changing her diaper. Again, make sure this item stays out of baby’s reach. You can also attach a memory board to baby’s wall. Fill it up with pictures of mom, dad, grandma and family. Babies are captivated by faces. Why not celebrate the faces baby already knows by showcasing a family face collage? Memory boards can be beautiful and can coordinate with any nursery decor.
