Now that spring is turning into summer and the weather is warming, it is time to hit the outdoors with your new baby. Sometimes it is difficult to enjoy outside activities with a new baby in tow. What is a new mother to do? She has been cooped up all winter long caring for her new baby and other children in the house. New moms may feel apprehensive about summer activities that include baby. Packing and repacking all the babies essentials can seem like a daunting task. Parents Magazine has come up with fun things to do with baby. This list can help mom get out with new baby without the fear of all the work that is involved with traveling or playing outdoors with baby.

The first summer fun activity is to pack a picnic. Enjoy the outdoor air, if baby is really young he will enjoy watching the other children slide down the slide, playing in the sand and frolicking in the grass. Even the bright colors of the park play gym can be very stimulating for your new baby. Since your baby will be so entertained by the other children, why not take a magazine or a book to read while he takes in his new surroundings. This may also be a good time for mom to return phone calls, write in her journal or even join baby in the fun sport of people watching.

Another great suggestion is to take a class with baby. Check your local Yellow Pages for such fun classes as mommy and me yoga, kinder play, music, and strollersize classes. Taking a class with your new baby can help you meet other new moms who may be facing similar problems or situations that you are experiencing with your new baby. Not only will you get to meet other mommies, your baby will also meet his very first friends. These classes are also a great way to set up play dates with other moms.

A wonderful free idea to share some quality time with your new baby is talking with the animals. Go to the pet store and browse the aisles looking at all of the wonderful animals. Some pet stores will let you hold their bunnies. Let baby feel the texture of their fur. This is a great stimulation exercise for your new baby. Let’s face it; petting bunnies is great therapy for any new mom. Take baby over to the fish tanks and bird cages. The colorful animals will fascinate and stimulate baby for hours. Just make sure that this activity is not done right before naptime. All of this stimulation can keep baby from taking his afternoon nap. If you are in a mall and baby happens to fall asleep in his stroller, this is perfect “mommy time” for you to find a mall bench and catch up on some reading or to look for that sexy lingerie you wanted to buy.

While you are at the mall you may want to try another idea on the list. Walk down the aisles of a fabric store. The bundles of fabric are right and baby’s eye level for him to reach out and touch the wonderful textures of all the beautiful fabrics. At the same time, inspire yourself on a wonderful project for baby’s nursery. Read through the pattern books or ask an employee for an easy project that you can do or that you and your friends may do together. Making cute new pillows for baby’s nursery décor can be very entertaining. This is a great time to learn a new craft or hobby that you have always wanted to try.

Fill up your bathtub and enjoy a relaxing soak with your new baby. Include colorful bath toys and things to entice baby to play.
