Traveling With Baby

Your travel life needn't grind to a halt just because you've become a parent. But the reality is, much of your trip will be spent soothing and entertaining your baby. So much for dreamily staring out the window and taking in the passing scene. Remember to create a home away from home whenever possible. Babies do enjoy a routine, especially in the first year of their life.

One important item you will want to pack well, is a diaper bag and Brown Eyed Baby Boutique has some fantastic ones.Your diaper bag should include not only diapers but a soft blanket, a good supply of water, formula or breast milk, childrens toys, a bag of snacks if your baby is eating solids. Some snacks may include jars of baby food, animal crackers, bags of whole grain cereals, and cartons of fruit juice. Consider packing some toweletts for easy cleanup.

If your driving, plan frequent stops to break up your trip so baby can stretch his limbs and move around to blow off some pent-up energy. Pick out some nice parks or picnic areas and those children's toys in your diaper bag will come in handy! End your driving day early so all of you have time to unwind after a long day on the road.

Prepare a first aid kit so you'll have the supplies you need for dealing with minor medical problems while traveling with your baby. Be sure to take along any prescription medications that your baby requires, even if on occasion.

Take a hat for your baby to shade him from the sun in warm weather or keep his head bundled in cool weather. Sunscreen is a must, too, if you'll be spending time outdoors. Apply in small amounts to the face and back of hands in babies under six months, or more liberally whenever skin is exposed in older babies. Use sunscreen of at least SPF 15, with both UVA and UVB protection.

In the car, your baby should always ride in the back seat, in a rear- facing car seat, never in the front seat with or without an air bag. Before you leave, make sure the car seat is properly installed and that the seat's belt's are correctly threaded. Make sure the harness fits your baby snugly and securely.

Perhaps you will be traveling by plane! If you have purchased an airline seat for your baby, bring an FAA approved care seat for your child to sit in. If you haven't bought a ticket for your baby, you'll be able to use the car seat only if there are empty seats on board. Be sure if your baby seems to be experiencing ear pain from air pressure changes, encourage him to suck on a bottle or pacifier. Also, if your crossing times zones and are worried about upsetting your baby's schedule, you may want to try shifting your baby's sleep hours for a few days before departure.

One more thing if your traveling by airplane, don't board early. Instead, send your partner on ahead with the carry-on stuff while you stay out in the lounge. Why spend any more time cooped up then you absolutely have too.

Now, you have as much information as you can handle in one sitting, so go and enjoy these special times with that baby, and hopefully your travels will be made easier by some of these suggestions!
